Online CSW65 side event: Gender Justice and Equality before the Law

The Jordanian National Commission for Women, the Moroccan Ministry of Solidarity, Women, Family and Social Development, in collaboration with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the UN Population Fund (UNFPA) and UN Women Regional Office for the Arab States (ROAS), with financial support from the Government of Japan, will host a regional online event titled “Gender Justice & Equality before The Law: Implications of inequality before the law for full and effective participation and decision-making in public life, as well as the elimination of violence against women” on March 23, 2021.
Organized in the sidelines of the sixty-fifth session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW65), to be held from 15 to 26 March 2021, the event aims at introducing the Gender Justice and Equality before the Law initiative, which seeks to engage countries at the national level to enhance their adherence to international frameworks.
The online session will also serve to advocate for the adoption of the tool by UN partners in other regions, examine the implications of gender inequality before the law, discuss strategies and interventions to accelerate the adoption of laws that advance women’s rights and address existing gender inequalities and enhance the empowerment of present and future generations of women and girls in the Arab states region.
The meeting will be attended by national women’s machineries, government and judiciary representatives; parliamentarians; women, youth and human rights activists; non-governmental and civil society organizations working on women’s rights and access to justice; academia, think tanks, diplomatic and donor community, as well as UN Agencies, including regional commissions and regional offices.
