UN Women Arab States Statement on the Situation in Gaza
Date:
UN Women is deeply alarmed by the renewed and intensified attacks on Gaza, which have already killed approximately 436 Palestinians, including at least 93 women and 183 children over the past 48 hours, with many more injured.
With nowhere safe to turn, women and girls’ lives, health, and dignity are at grave risk. The escalating violence is causing more suffering to a population already exhausted by war and destruction. This catastrophic situation cannot be allowed to continue – it must end now.
UN Women joins the UN Secretary-General in his strong appeal for the ceasefire to be respected, for unimpeded humanitarian assistance to be restored, and for the remaining hostages to be released immediately and unconditionally. All those arbitrarily detained must be released immediately and unconditionally.
UN Women also joins the statements of shock and devastation expressed by colleagues in the UN System after the UN staff killed and stresses the importance of ensuring full protection for humanitarian workers and guaranteeing their security and safety.
