UN Women, a global champion for women’s rights and equality, has announced that its regional senior representative will be speaking at Forbes Middle East Women’s Summit 2023 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, highlighting the evolution of women in the workplace in the Arab world.

The three-day summit—chaired by H.H. Princess Noura Bint Faisal Al Saud—will feature a series of expert programming and a host of networking opportunities with women across all sectors and walks of life from May 21-23, 2023.

Forbes Middle East is also joining UN Women in a media partnership to advance gender equality through journalism on women’s rights, and particularly women’s economic empowerment in the Arab states. Women make up about half of the world’s population but remain sorely under-represented in the news.

The Global Media Monitoring Project, which tracks gender equality in the news, found in a 2020 global survey that women accounted for 25 per cent of news subjects and sources in all forms of media—only one percentage point higher than the 24 per cent in 2015.

“Women represent only one out of four of those heard, read about or seen in the news. Media outlets have the power to change that by scaling up their focus on women’s rights and gender equality issues,” said Susanne Mikhail, Regional Director of UN Women for the Arab States. “Our partnership with regional media entities such as Forbes will help us convey our message on the win-win nature of women’s employment—the financial gain on family income, countries GDP, and overall human development.”

“We are incredibly proud to champion women’s success in the Middle East and to use our world-class platform to highlight their contribution and potential in all levels of life and business,” says Khuloud Al Omian, CEO and Editor-in-Chief of Forbes Middle East. “We look forward to nurturing our partnership with the UN to continue advocating for gender equality, and to welcoming them at our summit in Riyadh, where we will discuss this issue and how we can all work towards measurable solutions that benefit everyone.”

The all-star line-up of confirmed speakers at the Women’s Summit 2023 includes: Dr. Saeeda Jaffar, GM for the GCC at Visa; actress Meryem Uzerli; Sara Sabry, Founder and CEO of the Deep Space Initiative; Aisha Bin Bishr, Vice Chairwoman of the board for Emaar; Hoda Mansour, CIB Board Member and Head of the Sustainability Committee; Lana Khalaf, General Manager at Microsoft Qatar; Alison Rehill-Erguven, CEO of Cenomi Centers; Marloes Knippenberg, CEO of Kerten Hospitality; and Tarek Youssef Hosni, CEO of Jamjoom Pharma, among many others.
