Press release: The Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication and UN Women are organizing a film week on women’s rights in Cinéma Renaissance in Rabat

Rabat, Morocco, 25 November 2022 - UN Women is organizing, in partnership with the Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication and the Cinémathèque Marocaine, and with the support of the Embassies of Canada, Switzerland,  and Australia, the ARMCDH, and Fondation Hiba, the Women’s Rights Film Week on the theme of ending gender-based violence and discrimination and in favor of the rights of women and girls from the 25th to the 29th of November 2022 in Cinéma Renaissance in Rabat.

This event is held in the context of the “16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence”, an international Campaign which runs annually from the 25th of November until the 10th of December.

The screened movies and documentaries, produced all over the world, illustrate gender-based discrimination in its many forms and highlight women’s mobilization for their rights and for gender equality. From women’s advocacy for their right to vote or to equal pay to their fight against gender-based violence, these works distinguish themselves by address various issues of gender inequality with tact and bravery.

Screening schedule:

November 25th, 2022, at 7.30 p.m.: Les Yeux Secs (Morocco)

November 26th, 2022, at 7 p.m.: Mazal Tefla (Morocco)

November 26th, 2022, at 7:30 p.m.: Between Two Seas (Egypt)

November 27th, 2022, at 7 p.m.: L’Ordre Divin (Switzerland)

November 28th, 2022, at 7 p.m.: Kuessipan (Canada)

November 29th, 2022, at 7 p.m.: Brazen Hussies (Australia)

A debate and discussion session with the audience, moderated by women's human rights activists, is planned at the end of each screening.

The screenings will beheld in Cinéma Renaissance and are free and open to the public from the 25th to the 29th of November 2022.
