UN Women announces new cohort of youth advocates

Cairo, Dec 21, 2020 - UN Women Regional Office for the Arab States (ROAS) announced the second cohort of Gender Innovation Agora (GIA) a consultative forum and platform for regular dialogue and advocacy around gender with youth in the Arab States. 47 young leaders from 13 Arab States (Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Syria, Tunisia, Yemen) were selected for their leadership and demonstrated contribution to promote gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls.
The GIA is constituted from youth advocates, civil society professionals, business innovators and social media influencers to provide expertise on youth and gender issues, inform innovative solutions and campaigns, encourage the mobilization of young people and facilitate the dissemination of information to networks and organizations around the region.
UN Women’s Regional Director for the Arab States, Susanne Mikhail, welcomed the announcement of the new cohort, remarking that “young people are contributing to innovative solutions, driving social progress and inspiring positive change. UN Women is proud to work with these youth advocates to foster change and make Generation Equality a reality for the Arab States region.”
Selected from over 800 applications, the new GIA members will support efforts to engage young people, feminist movements, civil society and students in the Generation Equality movement to develop initiatives support regional implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 5: achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.
