SURVIVORS AS CHANGEMAKERS FOR JUSTICE

Sexual violence continues to be a horrific feature of today’s conflicts, affecting millions of people worldwide. In the MENA region, sexual violence in conflict contexts has been used by state and non-state actors as a brutal weapon of war, with detrimental impacts on entire communities. Accountability for conflict-related sexual violence remains elusive, leaving survivors and their families with no justice and redress. UN Women and HÁWAR.help have been honored to bring together women survivors of violence from Iraq and Syria together with international legal experts to discuss ways to end impunity for conflict-related sexual violence, enhance accountability, and provide justice and reparation for survivors in the MENA region and beyond.
