H.E. Minister of Social Affairs of Kuwait, Ms. Mariam Al-Aqeel on the int'l Day for the EVAW

The International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, which is observed every year on the 25th of November, is an occasion for me to emphasize the importance of international and regional solidarity of all nations, to endorse initiatives and to support institutions that protect women and girls from violence. Violence against women and girls is one of the most widespread violations of human rights in the world. So, I call on all countries to develop programmes that eliminate violence against women.

In 1994, the State of Kuwait signed the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women; and last August, it passed the Domestic Violence Protection Law. It also ensured that women are empowered politically, economically, and socially.
The 2035 vision of the State of Kuwait will only be achieved by means of empowering and protecting women against all forms of discrimination.

Finally, I would like to give my thanks and appreciation to all those who have participated with us at this annual international day for the elimination of violence against women.
