An alliance of several international health and development partners are launching a Regional Health Alliance hosted by the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean.

Marking International Human Rights Day, UNDP, in partnership with UN Women, UNFPA and ESCWA, will be launching a new regional report, entitled “Gender Justice & Equality Before the Law in the Arab States Region: Analysis of Progress and Challenges.” The report brings a unique regional lens to laws and law enforcement practises – examining social and economic contexts in which laws are made and pointing to examples of good practice from across the region to encourage exchanges of experience and ideas to advance gender justice.

High-level conference to discuss the Arab region’s priorities for the next five years in the area of gender equality and women’s empowerment, based on an assessment of the progress made and gaps identified in the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action 25 years after its adoption. The meeting is expected to conclude with the adoption of a declaration that will reflect the Arab position on the subject, to be presented at the 64th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women, to be held in New York in March 2020.
