On 12 April, UN Women and UNDP will co-host a webinar to launch the COVID-19 Global Gender Response Tracker in the Arab States. The webinar will introduce the Tracker, and illustrate how stakeholders including governments, CSOs, academia and others can use the data it contains to inform and advocate for gender-responsive COVID-19 responses.

The Jordanian National Commission for Women, the Moroccan Ministry of Solidarity, Women, Family and Social Development, in collaboration with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the UN Population Fund (UNFPA) and UN Women Regional Office for the Arab States (ROAS), with financial support from the Government of Japan, will host a regional online event titled “Gender Justice & Equality before The Law: Implications of inequality before the law for full and effective participation and decision-making in public life, as well as the elimination of violence against women” on March 23, 2021.

Since the first COVID-19 case was detected in in Lebanon in February 2020, the shadow pandemic of violence that has run parallel against women has yet to flatten its curve. Evidence across the country indicates that the risks have soared, along with call volumes on domestic violence hotlines, with strong indications of increased prevalence and severity.

UN Women, UNDP and OECD will host a webinar on Wednesday 8 July to take a closer look at governments’ investments in gender equality and women’s economic empowerment in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The webinar will discuss the role of the private sector and civil society organizations (CSOs) as supporters of, and beneficiaries from, an economic recovery process that is gender-responsive. The event will be attended by policymakers, CSOs and private sector representatives to discuss and contribute ideas for future gender-responsive policy.
