High-Level Conference on the Implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action in the Arab States
Date: Sunday, November 17, 2019
On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (UN-ESCWA), UN Women, the League of Arab States, and the Arab Women Organization will hold a “High-Level Conference on Progress Made in the Implementation of Beijing after Twenty-Five Years” on 28 November 2019 at the Kempinski Hotel in Amman, Jordan.
This high-level conference is the culmination of a comprehensive process implemented by the Member States and other stakeholders to review the progress made and challenges faced in implementing the Beijing Declaration and Platform for action. A series of substantive discussions will be held regarding the Arab Region’s priorities to achieve gender equality and women's empowerment, and the action needed to reach this objective.
A final document reflecting the Arab position on the 25-year review will be adopted at the end of the conference, reaffirming the principles enshrined in the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, and setting priority areas for action in the future. This document will be submitted to the 64th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women to take place in New York in March 2020.
