Yemen Gender Analysis
Since late 2024, Yemen’s protracted conflict has intensified, worsening an already severe humanitarian and economic crisis. The latest escalation has disrupted essential services, limited humanitarian access, and deepened existing gender inequalities across the country. Women and girls are facing heightened protection risks, reduced access to healthcare, and increasing barriers to livelihood opportunities as households struggle with displacement, loss of income, and restricted mobility.

Amid damaged infrastructure and strained institutions, critical services, including maternal healthcare, gender-based violence response, and psychosocial support, remain limited or inaccessible in many areas. Women’s economic participation continues to decline as conflict-driven pressures push households into negative coping mechanisms, disproportionately affecting female-headed families. Movement restrictions, insecurity, and the collapse of local markets further limit women’s ability to access aid and essential supplies.

Despite these challenges, women continue to play vital roles within their communities, leading local initiatives, supporting displaced families, and contributing to social cohesion. Strengthening gender-responsive planning, restoring essential services, and expanding safe access to aid remain urgent priorities to address the growing needs of women, girls, and conflict-affected populations throughout Yemen.
